چکیده

Recently, Busemeyer et al. (2011) presented a model for how the conjunction fallacy (Tversky & Kahneman, 1983) emerges, based on the principles of quantum probability (QP) theory. Pothos et al. (2013) extended this model to account for the main similarity findings of Tversky (1977), which have served as a golden standard for testing novel theories of similarity. However, Tversky’s (1977) empirical findings did not address the now established insight that, in comparing two objects, overlap in matching parts of the objects tends to have a greater impact on their similarity, than overlap in non-matching parts. We show how the QP similarity model can be directly extended to accommodate structure in similarity comparisons. Smolensky’s et al.’s (2014) proposal for modeling structure in linguistic representations, with tensor products, can be adapted ‘as is’ with the QP similaritymodel. The formal properties of the extended QP similarity model are analyzed, some indicative fits are presented, and, finally, a novel prediction is de-

Classification and properties of acyclic discrete phase-type distributions based on geometric and shifted geometric distributions

Acyclic phase-type distributions form a versatile model, serving as approximations to many probability distributions in various circumstances. They exhibit special properties and characteristics that usually make their applications attractive. Compared to acyclic continuous phase-type (ACPH) distributions, acyclic discrete phase-type (ADPH) distributions and their subclasses (ADPH family) have ...

Motivated by recent experiments that detects Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction in , we study the effects of DM interaction on magnetic orders of J1-J2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model. First, we find the classical phase diagram of the model using Luttinger-Tisza approximation. In this approximation, the classical phase diagram has two phases. For , the model has canted Neel and DM intera...

A Quantum Probability Explanation for Violations of Symmetry in Similarity Judgments

A model of similarity is presented which is based on Quantum Probability (QP) theory. The model is applied to the case of violations of symmetry in similarity judgments, as demonstrated by Tversky (1977). The QP similarity model can predict such violations, on the basis of the same underlying intuitions as Tversky (1977). Moreover, we discuss how the model can be extended to account for violati...

A theory of the detection and learning of structured representations of similarity and relative magnitude

Responding to similarity, difference, and relative magnitude is ubiquitous in the animal kingdom. However, humans seem unique in the ability to represent relative magnitude and similarity as abstract relations that take arguments (e.g., greater-than (x,y)). While many models use structured relational representations of magnitude and similarity, little progress has been made on how these represe...
